The El Paso Society for Musicians of the Future (EPSMF) is accepting applications to enter the 2019 Competition for Young Musicians and Instruments for Young Live Program. The deadlines are approaching. Applications are online at www.epsmf.org.
Applications for the COMPETITION FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS must be postmarked by January 31, 2019
The competition is open to classical musicians (all instruments and voice) ages 8 through 19. Six finalists will be chosen and the winner will be selected from among the finalists. The winner will receive an $1800 first prize and will perform in the EPSMF 2016 Summer Concert. The second place award is $700, and third place award is $500. Finalists will be announced on March 15, 2019. Finalists will compete on May 4, 2019 at Star City Studio. Watch for announcements.

EPSMF partners with long-time El Paso business Olivas Music to award new musical instruments to deserving students. Students will be selected on the basis of exceptional classical musical talent, unmet financial need, solid academic achievement, discipline in music education and strength of character. Recipients must be from 8 to 18 years old, be U.S. citizens and not have entered college during the 2019-2020 school year. Recipients will become participants in the EPSMF outreach and Ambassador Leadership Program. Recipients will be announced on March 1, 2019. Instruments will be awarded at the annual EPSMF Honoree & Awards Dinner on April 11th at the Magic Bistro. Watch for these announcements.
Call for original solo piano scores! Applications for OM/NI - Original Music/New Ideas –must be postmarked by March 15, 2019.
Launched nationally in September 2017, OM/NI is designed to give young composers an opportunity to receive acknowledgement for their original scores (piano solo only). OM/NI recognizes young composers in a Junior Division (ages 9-16) and an Emerging Composers Division (ages 17-25). Winning scores will be featured in the August 11, 2019 Sounds of St. Mark’s Concert Series in El Paso, TX. All compositions selected for the concert will be included in the 2018 OM/NI New Music Compilation. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three in each division with eligibility for the Audience Choice Award.

The El Paso Society for Musicians of the Future is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging generations through quality classical music programs. In the 2018, competition pianist Vincent Yang (Radford School) was awarded First Place out of seven finalists in the annual Competition for Young Musicians.
Two instruments were awarded in the 2017-2018Instruments for Young Lives program: Carlos Simental (Horizon High School) received a Bb clarinet; Isaiah Herrera (Eastwood High School) received a double bass.
Paul Stoval (Western Washington University) was awarded First Place in the Emerging Composer Division for his original piano score, Falling Through the Black Hole, in the 2018 OM/NI Competition. Alan Shipman (Liberty High School. Missouri) was awarded First Place in the Junior Division in the 2018 OM/NI Competition for his original piano score, Mountains.
