Bridging generations in action.

ABOUT

EPSMF celebrates established and emerging musical talent through unique, collaborative performances during the summer months. Events have included the Annual Concert featuring international artists, such as concert pianist, Christopher O’Riley , and soprano, Elena Armijo, as well as acclaimed local artists, such as flutist, Melissa Colgen-Abeln, and La Catrina Quartet. In the 2012 season, Jeremy Mims returned home to El Paso with Melissa Loehnig for a fabulous four-hands piano performance. The organization celebrated its 10-year anniversary as a sponsor for the Carnegie Weill Hall concert, Grace Cloutier & Friends, followed by a repeat performance with Ms. Cloutier and flutist Haley Rempel at the El Paso Museum of Art. Summer 2015 featured countertenor Brian Asawa with soprano Natanya Washer. 2016 featured a collaboration with the El Paso Museum of Art presenting French and American artwork and composers of the periods together. 2017 and 2018 brought old and new musician friends to EPSMF stages. Karl Shymanovitz returned to accompany Jacqueline Matava in a special concert of art song in Spanish culture. Andrew and Amy Smith gave us an unforseen journey in a “Night to Marimba”.

EPSMF is a three-time host to NPR’s radio show From the Top. The June 2009 live-taping featured El Pasoan, Natanya Washer, a recipient of the $10,000 Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award, performing with El Paso Choral Society Young Ladies Choir. The 2013 show featured Wesley Yu, violinist and the winner of EPSMF’s first Competition for Young Musicians. The 2016 taping featured Madison Fanning, flutist, from Hanks High School. The El Paso shows have been aired numerous times on national airwaves. Watch for announcements. From The Top will be returning to El Paso!

In 2019, The OM/NI Concert replaced the traditional EPSMF Summer Concert to showcase creative new music by young composers. We are starting new traditions.
